Values and Vision

Give to us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything. ~Peter Marshall

  • Personal values evolve from circumstances with the external world and can change over time
  • They may be derived from those of particular groups or systems, such as culture, religion, and political party
  • However, personal values are not universal; one’s genes, family, nation and historical environment help determine one’s personal values

Values are based upon our life’s influences and experiences from those close to us as well as our political and global events. Values are extremely unique and personal to the individual. In my experience, personality dimensions do influence to some degree when someone will defend their values or share their vision. The reality is, we all have them, just because someone is not willing to verbally defend them, doesn’t mean they are not important to them. People will defend their values in many ways.
