Each generation will be defined within these areas:

Signpost of Time

  • Communication – Verbal and Nonverbal

  • Values and Vision
  • Passing the Torch

Between the times we are born to the becoming adults, we will form powerful core values. These values will be influenced by our families, educators, peers, etc. Each generation has different values, ideas, ways of getting things done, and preferences in the way they communicate the above. Note the use of the word different. There are two methods and messages to someone who is different from you generationally speaking:

  1. DIFFERENT; therefore WRONG.
  2. NOT WRONG; just DIFFERENT.

Each choice has its own results.

This article from the American Psychological Association speaks to “Generational differences at work” and studies ways to help our generations work together.
