Through our research we have found that dates vary widely between the generations, especially Gen X’ers, (1965-1976), Gen Y’s (1977-1990), and Gen Z’s (born after 1990). There are no absolutes as it relates to these dates. Truly there is no one person who fits these values and traits perfectly.

This generation brings a strong work ethic as they have grown up in the leanest of times and consider work a necessity as well as a privilege. They have earned their own way through their hard work. They are willing to put in long hours because of their loyalty. They are unique in that they often work for the same employer for their entire career.

Our Traditionalists have faced the toughest of times and have much to share with the generations. Providing them the opportunity to hand down this experience and knowledge in the work environment can have a lasting impact. The work environment has changed; there are nuggets of wisdom that our Traditionalists possess that can be valuable. Give them the respect they desire, appreciate their loyalty to their employers, and acknowledge their dedication to their work.
