“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Break your goals down into small action steps. What can you do this week to attain your SMART goal? List those with deadlines.
Inspect what you expect…develop clear measuring tools. There is software, apps, technology support etc. to help you measure the progress you are making. “If you are not making the progress that you would like to make and are capable of making, it is simply because your goals are not clearly defined.” ~Paul J. Meyer
Measurement is critical!
Who is holding you accountable?
Left to our own devices, it is too easy to cut ourselves a break or quit at our earliest challenge. Having an accountability partner has shown that goals have a greater chance of achievement with greater results. This should be an individual whom you trust will give you feedback that is truthful and brutally honest. This is also someone who will be willing to celebrate even your smallest successes.
Bringing your future into the present through visualizations and affirmations…
Create those visual images that mean something to you. Clipart and Google Images can be great resources to find pictures that depict the value of your achieved goal.
With affirmations, state your achieved goal in the present. Affirmations do not contain any negative words such as try, not, none, negative, won’t etc. “I am a successful business owner of a business with ____ satisfied clients.” You may have just opened the door to your business and are waiting for your first client, but say it like you mean it. Put these visualizations everywhere your eyes fall on a frequent basis. Your visor in your car, your bathroom mirror, wallet, computer screensaver…anywhere!
Now you have the ingredients for effective goals.
“Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people’s criticisms, carry out your plan.” ~Paul J. Meyer
